Generations of Exceptional
Craftsmanship

Woodworking has been in the family for at least 4 generations with Bill Fleming’s great grandfather floating logs down rivers in Virginia. As a child, there were many days Bill came home from his grandfather and uncles’ custom mill, Martin Woodcraft, covered in sawdust from the collection pit at the mill. Starting in high school with a class in woodworking, Bill truly explored and discovered his talent with woodworking. His freshman and junior year he won first place in the statewide high school competition in the furniture category. Being in a state that is known as the Furniture Capital of the World, this was quite and accomplishment in the fact that schools in the western part of North Carolina had significant woodworking programs. He took second place his senior year but was recognized for all the hand cut moldings he used on a desk he built. Further honing his skills, Bill attended Appalachian State University. While there he studied under the revered Bill Hanner working on several restoration projects around the state while also designing and building furniture as part of his course of study. After graduating from ASU with a BS in Industrial Tech/ Furniture Design and Construction, Bill moved back to Raleigh NC. Over the years he has built many pieces of fine furniture, worked on restoring historic homes all while working with his father in the printing industry and being a professional photographer. In 2009, Bill decided it was time to pursue his real passion of woodworking full time. Projects have ranged from wood restoration/repair on boats to built in custom shelving with hidden brackets. One of his passions of fly fishing is being served with custom fly rods and cases made from fine woods to create a heirloom case for clients to hand down to generations to come. Several spec as well as commission pieces are always in the works so please check back often to view the picture gallery of finished pieces.
